We know that every single one of our Santa Barbara-based blog readers is well-versed about the fire and the “state of emergency” in which our town finds itself today. But for those of you who don’t live here and perhaps haven’t seen the headlines, the “Jesusita fire” has been burning in the foothills directly behind Santa Barbara for about two days now. As of this writing, the news reports that “dozens” of homes have been lost, and a large chunk of downtown Santa Barbara (Drishti included!) is under an evacuation warning.
Here are a few photos we snapped right outside of our store yesterday afternoon, just after the winds picked up and started whipping the fire “out of control”. Despite the intensity inherent in these photos, we must say that they are also strikingly beautiful at the same time…

This is the historic Santa Barbara Presidio, which is located right across the street from Drishti.

We sat outside the front of Drishti and watched in awe as the huge cloud of smoke rose up into the air over the foothills. You can see other people further down the street watching the fire as well!

At about 11:00pm, we drove away from the fire up to a vantage point on the “mesa” area of Santa Barbara to get a look at the flames from a distance.

Stay safe- I’ll be up there this weekend to see my sister and she said that it’s raining ash. Being from the inland area of so Cal I know what that’s like and how scary it can be!
At the same time, those pictures are beautiful. Fire is so powerful and destructive, yet entrancing and inspiring at the same time. I’ll be keeping you all in my prayers!
Thanks, Jen! We so appreciate your supportive words. Totally agree about the destructive yet entrancing qualities of fire. So powerful!
