Hey Everybody! It’s time for another edition of everyone’s favorite column, Santa Barbara Yoga Buzz. We have two important topics to cover today, so let’s get right to it!
Topic #1: Real Bodywork DVDs
The first order of business is the pending release of two new yoga DVDs from the respected company Real Bodywork. Real Bodywork is the largest producer of massage DVDs in the nation, and they recently decided to try their hand at yoga-oriented offerings. They also happen to be based right here in little old Santa Barbara, California, and they have therefore conveniently tapped several amazing local yoga teachers to star in their DVDs. (Deb Dobbin, Zyrka Landwijt, and Deobrah Donahue are the first three to have worked with Real Bodywork thus far.)
Well, our piece of news for you is that the lovely Emily Kligerman is the newest addition to the Real Bodywork roster of wonderful teachers. Filming for the “Yoga Therapy for Back Pain with Emily Kligerman” DVD took place a few weeks ago (local yoga instructor Arturo Peal was Emily’s yoga pose model!), and the finished product should be available in the near future. We’ll definitely let you know when the exciting day of release arrives. Emily is an extremely knowledgeable yoga instructor and her DVD will be an excellent tool for anyone looking to alleviate back pain (which, considering our seated computer/desk/car lifestyles, is probably the majority of us, right?
)
In other Real Bodywork DVD news, a Vinyasa Flow DVD featuring Zyrka Landwijt is forthcoming. We didn’t make such a big deal about this DVD simply here on our blog because there are already two other Real Bodywork offerings starring Zyrka in existence (Yoga: Gentle Practice and Yoga: Gentle Vinyasa Flow).
Filmed on a gorgeous Santa Barbara beach at sunrise, the newest Zyrka DVD will be as visually stunning as it is engaging.
Topic #2: Yoga Class & Workshop News
This Thursday (3/5) will see the beginning of a second Ashtanga class on the Yoga Soup schedule. Steve Dwelley, who with his wife Michele Nichols runs the Mysore Ashtanga program at Santa Barbara Yoga Center, has taught a single led Ashtanga class at Yoga Soup on Sunday afternoons since mid-last-year. The fact that he’s taking on a second led class at Yoga Soup indicates that his Sunday class is doing well for him! Yay Steve!
Jason Handler, acupuncturist, yoga teacher, and qi gong master, is holding a workshop at Yoga Soup on March 28th entitled Taoist Yoga: Opening Your Energetic Centers. Jason Handler is one cool dude with a unique mix of philosophies and practices to offer. We definitely think you should make room in your schedule for his workshop! BTW, Jason is also teaching a new weekly class at Yoga Soup on Wednesdays from 12:30-1:30. The first day of this new class is tomorrow, 3/4! Check Jason out at this class or at his other weekly time-slot: Sundays from 10:30-11:55am.
Lastly, we’d like to pass along an email we received from yoga teacher Cybil Gilbertson. We have been hearing great things about her class (although we have yet to try it personally). Give her teaching a look-see and let us know what you think!
