Hey Everybody! We’re calling this volume of Santa Barbara Yoga Buzz “The Teacher Training Edition” because nearly all of our news is TT-oriented. We have 5 vital pieces of information for you today – make sure to be good readers and review them all.
Let’s begin!
1) Sarah Powers, who recently released her first-ever book (which, knowing Sarah, we’re sure is just wonderfully inspiring), is currently in town, leading a teacher training at Santa Barbara Yoga Center. Sarah teaches a perfect blend of yin, vinyasa, and meditation, and her teacher training students must be happily soaking it all in. Sometimes we wish that while big famous out-of-town teachers like Sarah Powers and Erich Schiffmann were in town for teacher trainings, they would hold a couple of special public classes during their time here as well. That way a larger portion of the community could experience their teaching style and tune into the mojo which they bring with them when they visit our town. Just a thought!
2) And speaking of Erich Schiffmann, have you heard about the super cool way that Drishti is hooking you up for his 10-day teacher training next month? If not, just click here for the details.
3) In even more teacher training noteworthiness, there is currently a 16-day teacher training program with Ganga White and Tracey Rich taking place at White Lotus Foundation. It started on March 14th and goes through the 29th. Our friend Amy Rose is enrolled in the training, and from her reports so far, she is thoroughly enjoying it. As a side note, Amy recently came up with the idea to raise money for her teacher training course through this website. And while we’re on the topic of White Lotus Foundation, have you been to their newly-re-designed snazzy website yet? It is very aesthetically-pleasing and features a super cool video on the home page, plus a photo tour of the WLF premises. Here is an example of a pretty picture found on the new site. Nice, huh?

4) And lastly on the teacher training front, have you heard the big Yoga Soup news? Although they offer yoga classes and yoga workshops galore, Yoga Soup has never offered yoga teacher trainings – until now. And unlike the 10-day or 16-day teacher training intensives that our community is used to, Yoga Soup is offering a full 200-hour course which takes place on Saturdays and Sundays for 22 consecutive weekends. Talk about a commitment!
And if that wasn’t big enough news for you, we have still more to report. The teacher training program is not solely a “Yoga Soup”-designed course. It’s actually a Yoga Works training that’s being held in conjunction with Yoga Soup. The training will be led by LA-based Yoga Works instructor Jeanne Heileman, who has been practicing yoga for over 21 years.
The Yoga Works involvement here is certainly noteworthy. Yoga Works is a large, ever-expanding yoga studio chain which always seems to be on the lookout for new studios to acquire. Just last Summer in the Bay Area, Yoga Works took over the prominent tri-studio business Yoga Studio Mill Valley, Larkspur Landing, and San Francisco. And we’ve heard whispers that Yoga Works was interested in buying a certain large yellow-colored yoga studio here in our very own Santa Barbara (but the deal didn’t go through.) Could this teacher training connection between Yoga Soup and Yoga Works be a sign of things to come? You never know, but one can’t help but speculate…
5) Our last item of business concerns a new yoga studio in the Mesa area of Santa Barbara called RussaYog Yoga. If you have driven up the Carrillo hill to Lazy Acres lately, you’ve probably noticed the prominent sign for this studio, which is hanging right at the busy intersection of Carrillo Street and Cliff Drive. RussaYog Yoga is a style of yoga invented by Teresa and Jasprit Singh in which asanas are practiced in conjunction with ropes. In Punjabi language, “russa” means “rope”, so this is quite literally Rope Yoga. This Santa Barbara studio is the Singhs’ second yoga studio – their first is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Click here to see the website for this new studio, and click here for a movie the Singhs made about their rope-based yoga style.
Conclusion: In conclusion, we had a significant amount of Santa Barbara yoga news to report today, wouldn’t you say?

I loved this article. I had no idea that Yoga was so prevalent in Santa Barbara or that we had such rich resources available. I can’t even touch my toes!
