The newest addition to the Santa Barbara yoga teacher scene is Cynthia Abulafia, who has studied extensively with many noteable teachers from the Yoga Works crew in the Los Angeles area. She recently moved to SB with her husband and is teaching six days a week at Santa Barbara Yoga Center and three days a week at Yoga Soup (wow!) You can check out her website here and see lots of cool pictures of Cynthia striking yoga poses, plus read her full bio. We had the chance to meet Cynthia the other day and she was very friendly and seemed excited to be living in Santa Barbara.
Ashtanga Yoga teacher Steve Dwelley, who owns and operates the Ashtanga Yoga Shala in downtown SB with his wife Michele Nichols, will be making a weekly trip across the street from his studio to Yoga Soup to teach a led Ashtanga class there. We love Steve’s persona and his yoga teaching, and as we are also fans of Yoga Soup, we predict that this will be a delightful match-up! It’s great that Yoga Soup students will have the opportunity to practice Ashtanga on a regular basis. Steve’s new class will be held on Sundays from 3:45-5:15pm beginning February 17. Whoo-hoo!
In other yoga teacher buzz, Iyengar Yoga Studio of Santa Barbara has welcomed a new teacher to their roster, Sue Elivique (she’s a previous SB resident who recently moved back to town – she was formerly known as Sue Darling, in case this rings a bell). She is teaching there on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Niav Connor, the dynamic Yoga Soup teacher, is celebrating the fact that she and her boyfriend Josh Milne are engaged!! The next time you see her, you must ask to see her beautiful pearl (read: not-a-politically-controversial-diamond) engagement ring. In other Niav news, she was recently recommended for her yoga teaching in a Santa Barbara magazine article.
Last but not least (didn’t we have a LOT of yoga teacher buzz to report?), yoga teacher “star” Deb Dobbin is reportedly bringing in an average of 50+ students each class. She also hosted a wonderful party last week to celebrate the occasion of her newly released DVD, about which we previously reported, and which you can buy at Drishti.
If you have any yoga teacher buzz that you would like us to know about, feel free to let us know by emailing us at email (at) drishtiyoga.com! Bye for now.
