This video comes to us from a group of yoga teachers out of New York City who call themselves “Bite Size Yoga”. We’ve never seen a yoga-inspired video quite like this one! Heh heh. It’s called “Sanskrit Back” and the lyrics are pretty clever… :)
One element of “Sanskrit Back” that stood out to us, though, was that the singers pronounce the word “asana” with the emphasis on the second syllable: “asAAAHna”. Everywhere we’ve been in the yoga world, however, “asana” is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable: “AAAHsana”. Are things just that different and crazy in the New York yoga scene
, or are these singers mis-pronouncing the integral yoga word “asana”? Just wonderin’.
(Thanks to Tara Stiles who tipped us off to this fun video!)

Thanks we’re so glad you enjoy it! And thanks to Tara for sending it along!

Oh and you are quite correct, we are indeed pronouncing Asana differently! You see, sometimes you must modify Asana to work with your specific needs. Be it injury, body proportions, or the rhythm of an awesome song”
