A mere three days after launching our new Drishti Blog column “Questionably Calling Something Yoga”, we’ve come across a second activity whose association with the term “yoga” is highly dubious. Named “Dahn Yoga“, this organization’s website boasts the words “1 Dollar Enlightenment” and claims that:
The secret to success lies in your brain. That is why Dahn Yoga focuses on the brain so intensely in the deeper levels of this practice. By learning to become the master of your brain, you can become the master of your life. Tap into the Infinite potential of your brain through Brain Wave Vibration.
What’s most interesting about Dahn Yoga is that on May 22, a lawsuit on behalf of 26 former members was filed against the organization. The lawsuit alleges that Dahn Yoga subjects its members to “psychological manipulation” and that the organization fits the definition of a cult. Find out more in this news report.
Based on the widely-accepted definition of yoga in the West today as “a practice with roots in India which combines bodily movements (asanas) with breath (pranayama)”, we are officially giving Dahn Yoga the “VERY questionably calling something yoga” stamp.

Dahn is nothing more than a mind controlling cult that takes advantage of people’s guilt and weaknesses to gain this control. They illegally work their employees for far more hours than they pay them for, push the members to spend as much as possible on training and trips (even if they can’t afford it, they are to beg borrow and steal from anyone they can), and they encourage their instructors to break ties with friends and family since Dahn is the only thing that should be in their life. It is sad because the classes are actually pretty good, although very expensive. Ilchi Lee uses those classes to increase his personal wealth.
