Yoga Conspiracy in San Luis Obispo…

Tuesday, 4 March, 2008

New Times San Luis ObispoIt’s quite a cover story: “The Down Side of Yoga: members of the local yoga community – and beyond – want to know what happened with Tridosha.” The cover mentioned here is that of the February 28 edition of San Luis Obispo’s weekly paper “New Times”. Kylie Mendonca, the article’s author, wrote an investigative piece which focuses on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the sudden closure of SLO’s popular yoga studio Tridosha. Apparently the owner, Michael Brevitz, skipped town without a word, leaving business investors awaiting payments, yoga teachers awaiting paychecks, and yoga students with unused class series flabbergasted and uncompensated.

Featured in this article (in a good light – not in any way implicated in the alleged very shady practices of this former studio owner) is Peter Sterios, proprietor of our favorite yoga mat company Manduka, and star of his own yoga DVD “Gravity & Grace”. (Peter was one of the people left ‘holding the bag’ by the irresponsible owner of Tridosha. Maybe you could make him feel better by ordering his DVD or one of his yoga mats? Heh heh.)

Questionable business practices in the yoga world tend to draw extra attention like this because they seem so counterintuitive and out-of-place.
