Here’s an interesting, well-researched article about yoga teacher trainings in the U.S. which was published week. The main gist is that enrollment in teacher training programs is markedly up, and that this phenomenon is a direct result of the recession in which our country currently finds itself.
The article focuses on Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusettes, which is referred to as “the nation’s largest yoga center.” (Total side note: is that statistic true, guys? Kripalu is well-established and nearly all yoga stars of the Yoga Journal-cover crowd (our newest made-up term) hold workshops and trainings there, but we’d never heard the claim that Kripalu was the biggest yoga center in the U.S. before. We wonder by what standard a yoga business’ size is measured – square footage, number of students, annual revenue – what? Okay, end of side note time.) The article also consulted with a spokeswoman for The Yoga Alliance, the well-known organization which puts its stamp of approval on aspiring “certified” yoga teachers. According to the Alliance (do you think it’s all right with them if we call them that?), they are receiving 50 to 100 applications a day from new teachers. That seems like a lot, don’t you think?
Anywho, check out the article if you feel like it. And have a nice relaxing Sunday while you’re at it!
