As we head into the fall season, it’s a great time to take a breath and assess where you are at in all areas of your life. Season transitions are potent time periods for us to take some space to get some perspective on our lives - physically, mentally, and emotionally - and observe how we are using our energy and time.
Rather than Spring Cleaning, how about trying a gearing-up-for-Fall Cleaning? We at Drishti are not exactly clean freaks, but something about a deep clean and a big shedding of all the extra stuff that’s been collected over the spring and summer feels great to us – like getting one of those Korean Spa rub-downs that hurt a little but leave you feeling super light and rejuvenated.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
1) Donating stuff feels gooooooood
Getting rid of stuff is wonderful in its own right. But when you have the added benefit of knowing that that stuff is going to someone who needs or will appreciate it, you can feel extra good inside.
2) Let organizing be your meditation for the day
No, seriously. Just let your mind melt into the simple task of organizing physical objects. Make a keep pile, a give-away pile, a throw-away/recycle pile. Starting with those three simple categories is easy and simple. You’ll be surprised how pleasurable mundane tasks can be when you give them your undivided attention!
3) Minimalism is IN
Less is more. Quality over quantity. Simplify, simplify, simplify. And all that jazz. Hint: A good rule of thumb with clothes is if you haven’t worn it in 6 months, you probably never will again (this excludes awesome costumes, technical sports gear and, sequined NYE dresses of course!).
So give it a GO – even if you just start with one room – or one drawer! The effects of clearing out your physical space where you spend a lot of your time can be hugely beneficial for mental clarity and peace of mind. As we open up to the new energy of the autumnal months, make some space in your mind and heart for all the blessings and beauty to come.
