Yin and Restorative Yoga in Tampa: Slow Down in The Grove

Slow Down. Breathe. Rest.

Some days call for a sweat. Other days call for stillness.

At Drishti Yoga and Wellness in Carrollwood, our yin and restorative yoga classes give you an hour to slow down, breathe, and let the rest of the day fall away. The room is calm and cool, the pace is unhurried, and there's nothing to keep up with.

Here, the focus is on you.

What Is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is a slow, quiet practice. Instead of flowing from pose to pose, you settle into a handful of mostly seated or reclined postures and stay there for a few minutes at a time.

Those long, passive holds gently work into the deeper layers of the body, like connective tissue and joints, rather than the muscles you use in a flowing class. Props such as bolsters, blocks, and blankets help you get comfortable so you can soften into each pose instead of forcing it.

The real practice is patience. You breathe, you notice, and you let go a little more with every breath.

What Is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is all about support. Bolsters, blankets, and blocks hold your body fully, so you can rest completely in each position.
There's very little effort involved. Restorative yoga is simply time set aside to be still, breathe deeply, and let your mind settle. Many of our classes in The Grove blend the two, pairing yin's long holds with restorative yoga's fully supported rest.

The Grove: Cool, Calm, Restore and Replenish

The Grove is our calm and cool room, home to our yin and restorative yoga classes.

Step inside and the pace changes. Lights are soft, the room is quiet, and the only thing on your schedule for the next hour is you.

Sound bowls. Our yin classes include sound bowls, whose soothing tones help your body and mind settle even deeper into stillness.

Everything you need. Mats, props, and towels are here, and showers are on site, so you can come straight from work or head out to dinner afterward.

Who Yin and Restorative Yoga Are For

Yin and restorative yoga are for anyone who wants to slow down. They may be a good fit if you:

  • are new to yoga and want a gentle, welcoming first class (our New to Yoga page walks you through it)
  • want a quiet way to unwind from a busy week
  • prefer a cool room to a heated one
  • practice hot yoga and want balance for your week

Pair it with hot yoga in The Forge. The Forge is our heated room, home to Heated Vinyasa, Power, Pilates, Sculpt and Mobility. Many students mix both into their week: a sweaty class in The Forge one day, and a slow, quiet yin class in The Grove the next. The heat builds strength and focus; The Grove gives you space to rest and reset. Learn more about hot yoga in Tampa.

You don't need to be flexible or experienced. You just need to show up and breathe. Everyone's body is different, so if you have an injury or health condition, check with your doctor and let your teacher know before class.
